14 Best Content Marketing Blogs to Check Out in 2020

If you’re like me, you’ve been spending more time than normal at home this year. While I hope you enjoy all of my content here, there’s no way I can say everything about content marketing (yet).

In all seriousness, there are many great content marketing websites out there. So, I wanted to put together a quick list of (in my opinion) the best content marketing blogs to check out in 2020.

best content marketing blogs of 2020

1. Convince & Convert

Before we go any further, I have to mention the company I would refer to as “The Godfather of Content Marketing.” Forgive me if that’s an out of date movie reference, but it’s a classic. The foundation of Convince & Convert began in 2008 from the mind of Jay Baer, someone who’s been an online marketer since 1993.

To put it another way, while I was learning addition in elementary school, Jay Baer was already a leader in the world of digital marketing. Baer continues his passion for online marketing with Convince & Convert. To call this a blog is a serious understatement. The people at Convince & Convert offer a wealth of great content including a library’s worth of blog posts, podcasts, and other great content.

2. Brian Solis

If we’re speaking about some of the sharpest minds in content marketing, we have to mention Brian Solis. He currently works as a Global Innovation Evangelist at Salesforce. He’s also an author of eight best-sellers. I personally love The End of Business as Usual and Lifescale, but they’re all worth reading!

Brian Solis has spent over 30 years studying and learning how digital technology impacts both companies and society. When global brands and big names need help with digital or content marketing, they call this man. If you want to put his insights to use, you’ll definitely want to check out briansolis.com.

3. Heidi Cohen

Throughout life, I try my best to not be a jealous person. But I’m officially jealous of the way that Heidi Cohen puts ideas and words together. If you’re someone that wants things broken down in a way that anyone can understand, go visit heidicohen.com.

Heidi Cohen has extensive marketing experience and is a powerhouse in this industry. Her blog specializes in content about social media, mobile marketing, content marketing, and much more. Seriously, each post is a goldmine of information. Another thing I love about Heidi’s blog is that these are actionable marketing insights, meaning it’s information you can use right away.

4. Vengreso

Vengreso is a company that is all about helping companies increase their sales. After all, this company’s name is the Spanish combination of the English words “sales” and “revenue.” And, with a name like that, you can bet Vengreso knows what it’s talking about. They prove it with Vengreso’s blog, one of the top content marketing blogs by a mile.

Led by a team of some of the best marketers in the world, Vengreso literally covers everything in the world of marketing. I guarantee you, whether you’re a small business or large company, digital or traditional, whatever the case is, you will learn a lot by visiting Vengreso’s blog regularly.

5. Ann Handley

If things go well for me and I’m ever hosting a large marketing event, Ann Handley would be at top of my list of speakers to contact. She is a best-selling author, an amazing speaker, the founder of ClickZ and an expert marketer.

Many of the websites in this list focus on everything relating to marketing, which is awesome. However, as someone who always wants to improve his writing, Ann Handley’s blog is a resource you’ll keep coming back to.

Whether you want to learn about the best conversion methods or how your mood affects your ability to write, there’s a topic for everyone here.

Also, I just had to mention that her newsletter (which is definitely worth signing up for) is called Total Annarchy, how cool is that?

6. Vertical Leap

Moving from the United States to the UK, I wanted to mention Vertical Leap. I swear I’ve learned more from this blog about how to work in a pandemic than I have anywhere else. Covering everything from app store optimization to social media, Vertical Leap is led by a team of content marketing specialists that know just about everything related to digital marketing.

Since 2001, Vertical Leap has been helping companies around the world create and execute digital marketing campaigns. As one of the leading UK SEO agencies, the information on this company’s blog is easy to digest and worth its weight in gold.

7. Word to the Wise + wiseWords

I’m someone who loves most things having to do with digital marketing. When it comes to email marketing, for whatever reason, I’m always falling over my own feet. That changed after I started reading Word to the Wise’s blog. This company is made up of email marketing legends and some of the sharpest minds in the marketing industry.

Word to the Wise is a blog that covers lots of topics including email best practices (required reading for any company with an email list), machine learning, spam, and much more. I also mentioned wiseWords because this is more of a step-by-step guide to everything related to emails.

8. Conversation Agent

If you’re looking for a look at the more technical side of content marketing (and a lot of other great topics), check out Conversation Agent. Valeria Maltoni, the founder of Conversation Agent, has been covering anything and everything in the world of tech and business since 2006.

You might know her from her appearances in Newsweek, Inc., Advertising Age, and Fast Company.

When I need advice to help my business re-pivot, I’ve found a wealth of information that’s helped me out many times. Pretty much any time I need advice, I go here. If you need help navigating the complicated business world, I recommend you check it out.

A few of my favorite articles from this website are: Mastering the Art of Persuasion and How to Practice a Culture of Innovation.

9. Social Media Explorer

Don’t let the name fool, you’ll find out about much more than social media from visiting this website. Social Media Explorer is far and away a leader in this industry. And, once you visit this company’s blog, it’s easy to see why.

If an expert could write a book on digital marketing, I’d say the minds at Social Media Explorer could write a few encyclopedias on this subject. I’ve gained a ton of valuable insights from Social Media Explorer about social media, working through a pandemic, and so much more.

Seriously, you might be in the wrong industry if you can’t find something here of value.

10. Duct Tape Marketing

I seriously love the culture and values of this company. The idea behind this company’s name came when thinking about the most valuable tool in a toolbox. What is it? Duct tape, of course. What I like so much about this company is the idea that marketing doesn’t have to be expensive.

I’ve gasped like I saw a ghost when I’ve seen how expensive some companies in this industry are. You won’t get that with Duct Tape Marketing. The belief of this company is that businesses shouldn’t have to pay out the wazoo to market their companies, something I fully support!

By this point, you might be like “there’s no way I’m bookmarking another blog to read, dude.” I get that. Don’t worry, Duct Tape Marketing provides most of its content in audio form (podcasts).

11. David Meerman Scott

Another legendary name in the world of marketing, David Meerman Scott is another incredible blog to check out. This blog is a goldmine of content for all things related to marketing. However, I want to specifically mention all of David Meerman Scott’s topics about virtual work and events.

Something else I love about this blog is the way that Scott is able to take topics and turn them into, you know, a language that isn’t boring. There are far too many people in this industry that can’t grasp this important concept of content creation, keep things interesting.

Whether you’re new to content marketing or not, you’ll find plenty of amazing content to sink your teeth into here.

12. {Grow}

Founded by Mark Schaefer, {grow} combines marketing, technology, and the human condition in a way that will have you reading post after post. The mind behind this company knows that digital marketing moves fast.

To keep up with such a fast-moving world, you need help from experts. Fortunately, you can find expert information and up-to-the-minute news about many digital marketing topics by visiting {grow}.

Don’t miss their article on nostalgia marketing, something I’ve seen making a huge comeback.

13. Portent

In the world of marketing, it’s always good to have guides to follow. I’m a huge fan of breaking things down step by step. This is one (of many) reasons why I love Portent. Based out of Seattle, this company has been helping other businesses with SEO, PPC, social media content, and other services.

If you’re having trouble with anything related to marketing, check out Portent’s blog. Chances are, you’ll probably find a guide that will solve your problem. I also love the design of this blog, with so many topics, the layout is easy to navigate and get what you’re looking for.

14. DreamGrow

You don’t have to look far in the marketing industry to see lots of people and brands with products or services to sell. With so many things coming out, it’s almost impossible to know what’s good, bad, or outdated.

Fortunately, with DreamGrow’s content, you won’t have to wonder which marketing products and services are worth your money. The DreamGrow blog is filled with awesome content, reviewing many popular marketing-related products and services. But, the content doesn’t stop there.

You’ll also find lots of valuable topics and tutorials for succeeding in the world of digital marketing.

Whether you are just getting started as a content marketer or you’re one of the best at this, I promise you can learn so much more by visiting the previously mentioned blogs. If all of these were around way back when I started creating content, I would probably be a billionaire right now (I’m not).

When you have some time to spare, I highly recommend checking out all of these awesome blogs. There are definitely some of the best content marketing blogs out there. Ready to get started creating content? Don’t miss my recent guide on how to make money online as a writer.
